Psalm 1:3 (NIV)
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.

Throughout 2026, W2W will journey together through the theme Bloom Where You Are Planted, exploring how God grows us, strengthens us, and brings forth fruit in every season of life. We will look at identity, resilience, purpose, and the quiet but powerful work God does beneath the surface long before anything is visible.

“Prepare the Soil Again”

From the Desk of Rev. Sharele Hatfield

Scripture: Hosea 10:12
“Break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the Lord…”

There are seasons when life feels like it has settled into routine, predictable, and maybe even a little too comfortable. Moments when the ground of your heart is untouched, unworked and unstirred. Hosea 10:12 calls us to something intentional: “Break up your fallow ground…” In other words, prepare the soil again.

Friends, fallow ground isn’t bad ground. It is ground that once produced fruit. Ground that once held promise. Ground that still carries potential. But potential doesn’t grow without preparation. And God is inviting you into a season of spiritual cultivation.

There are places in your life where prayer used to flow easily. Places where worship used to rise freely. Places where obedience used to be immediate. But life’s pace, pressures, and pains can cause us to leave certain areas untouched.

Preparing the soil again is an invitation. It is God saying, “I’m ready to grow something new in you, but I need you to let Me turn over what has settled.” It is the gentle reminder that spiritual growth requires spiritual participation. You cannot reap from ground you refuse to touch.

Neglected soil cannot produce.

Preparing the Soil Means…

Returning to what you stopped tending. The discipline, the devotion, the calling, the commitment.

Letting God disrupt your spiritual autopilot. He wants to awaken what has gone quiet.

Allowing the Word to penetrate again. Softened soil receives seed deeply and easily.

Expecting new growth in familiar places. God doesn’t waste ground — He restores it.

A New Season Is Coming

When soil is prepared, seed can be planted. When seed is planted, roots can form. When roots form, fruit will follow.

August is your invitation to return to the field with God. To pick up the tools of prayer, worship, repentance, and obedience. To let Him break up what has settled. To welcome the rain of His presence. To expect the harvest, He has already envisioned.

Prepare the soil again. It is time to seek the Lord.

August Focus Plant: The Sunflower

  • Symbol of intentional growth and turning toward the light
  • Represents soil that must be prepared for strong roots
  • Reminds us that growth requires direction and surrender
  • Declares that God is ready to produce new fruit in your life

    Reflection Questions:

    1. What areas of your spiritual life have become “fallow ground” — untouched but full of potential?
    2. Where is God inviting you to return, revisit, or re-engage this month?
    3. What spiritual practices help soften the soil of your heart?
    4. Who in your life needs encouragement to prepare their soil again and seek the Lord?

    Prayer:

Father, thank You for calling me back to the field of my heart. Thank You for seeing potential in places I have left untouched. Break up the fallow ground within me and prepare me for what You desire to plant. Teach me to seek You with intention, to surrender with trust, and to welcome the growth You want to produce. Turn over what has settled, soften what has hardened, and cultivate a fresh season in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
